BACK END: Canada's Legacy Media Hates the Canadian Journalism Collective
Google had the unusual opportunity to independently solicit news orgs eligible under the Online News Act for funding. It chose CJC, someone other than the favored Federal government shills.
Back in June 2024, our open forum for new media journalists, “Roasting the Press,” first discussed the strange case of the Canadian Journalism Collective (CJC).
At the time, we didn’t know the CJC would break open into the wider media consciousness or end up offending the legacy media.
We also didn’t know that, until the CJC was incorporated in May 2024, there was only one other potential recipient of government mandated Google gifts.
The CJC was formed in May 2024 to distribute the approximately $100Mln collected annually from Menlo Park CA based multinational conglomerate Google under the provisions of the Online News Act, for redistribution to Canadian media outlets.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Canada’s giant government funded, legacy public broadcaster.
