BACK-END: Turbocharging Independent Journalism in Canada.
New media needs a “trade association” to organize award ceremonies, sponsor events & generate the gov't lobbying efforts needed to compete against gov't funded competitors.
Freedom Forum has removed three important Canadian stories on “Turbocharging Independent “New Media” in Canada” from behind our paywall.
The stories are:
The March 5th, 2025 Freedom Forum BACK-END post, “Canada Needs a ‘New Media Journalism Award’," which discussed how one of the best ways to grow independent journalism is to create a series of yearly media awards to highlight alternatives and non-government approved, media industry expertise.
The March 13th, 2025 Freedom Forum BACK-END post, “Independent Canadian Journalists Need a "Canadian New-Media Association," which noted the success of News Media Canada,” a legacy media trade association formed in 2016, which lobbied the Canadian government to provide hundreds of millions of dollars annually to legacy media “allies” through government grants and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax rebates intended to encourage specific, mostly government approved viewpoints.
The March 19th, 2025 Freedom Forum BACK-END post, “BACK-END: Financing New Media Initiatives,” which looked back into history and found that innovative, independent content creators traditionally financed their operations by organizing “upfronts,” targeted summit style conferences to introduce content creators and their stories to potential sponsors.
Taken together, these three stories provide a powerful funding model focused around the creation of a new media “trade association” to organize events, government lobbying efforts, award ceremonies and sponsorship meet-ups for new media outlets looking to compete effectively against government funded legacy outlets.

The stories on “Turbocharging Media” join three other stories on the perversion of the legal concept of "Judicial Notice" and the 2025 listing of important and influential Canadian "NEW" Media" Outlets, which Freedom Forum considers too important to hide behind a paywall.
As outlined in the February 9th, 2025 Freedom Forum post, “Partially Tearing Down the Paywall,” those three stories include:
The December 27th, 2024 Freedom Forum post, “The 2025 Freedom Forum Listing of Important and Influential Canadian "NEW" Media" Outlets.” The post lists 60+ independent Canadian media outlets worth watching as the legacy media collapses, provides an overview of recent Federal government media legislation and discusses why our legacy media is dying.
May 16th, 2024 piece "The Historic Concept of "Judicial Notice" Has Been Twisted by Canadian Courts." The post discusses how the traditional common-law legal concept of "judicial notice" has been perverted in Canadian courtrooms to encourage justices to accept government propaganda, position papers and press releases on a wide variety of medical, social and political topics, without question or the need for validation.
The June 20th, 2024 Freedom Forum post, “More on the Concept of Judicial Notice in Canadian Courts,” a follow-up to the May 16th, 2024 story.
