Ordinary Canadians demanding personal choice, political accountability and informed consent before accepting medical procedures, are not a “radical right” mainstreaming “hate."

As someone who supported the 2022 Freedom Convoy from the outset, standing with truckers, farmers, and working Canadians who braved winter streets to protest mandates, economic ruin, and government overreach, I read Adam D.K. King’s May 18, 2026, The Maple post, “The Left Has Failed To Confront Canada’s Resurgent Right,“ with a weary recognition.

The piece, intended to promote Miriam Edelson’s new book, “Confronting the Resurgent Right,” recycles a tired Canadian narrative which insists that ordinary Canadians demanding personal choice, political accountability and informed consent before medical treatment, are not citizens exercising their Charter rights but are instead a “radical right” mainstreaming “hate and austerity.”

The framing reveals more about the authors disconnect with the Canadian political landscape than it does about any genuine threat from working class truckers, middle class voters or percieved “fascists.”
