The "Real Reason" Behind Contentious “GST Holiday” Legislation

The Liberal Party’s proposed “GST Holiday” legislation, essentially a bill providing for a two month GST exception on purchases of common consumer household items, is one step closer to becoming law.

As outlined in the November 28th, 2024 CTV News post, “Trudeau Liberals' two-month GST holiday bill passes the House, off to the Senate” the twelve page motion under the title “Bill C-78,” passed “after a winding procedural process unfolded in the chamber over several hours,” and after debate on the “green slush fund” scandal was temporarily halted.

The bill seems to have passed without the usual Parliamentary scrutiny, racing through three truncated readings in the House of Commons in only a two day period.
