Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Promises to Resign, Prorogues Parliament
As outlined in the January 6th, 2024 CTV News post originally titled, “Justin Trudeau stepping down as Liberal leader, to stay on as PM for now,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to resign just as soon as Liberals can find a new leader.
He will also be proroguing Parliament, cancelling all public debate and formal government business until the new Liberal leader is chosen.
Effectively, this means that the Liberal government will remain in power and an election will not be called for at least the next few months.
Which is kind of a shame, since opposition leader Pierre Poilievre kicked off his formal campaign January 2nd, 2025 with an interview on Jordan Peterson’s podcast.
