The Current Wave of Advertising is Selling “Connections” to Secret Truths
“Roasting the Press,” spends a lot of time talking about propaganda in both the new media and the legacy.
But we scarcely talk about the propaganda in advertising, about how traditional marketing has essentially become so ineffective over the last decades because mostly because no one, not even NPC (non-player characters), believe what they see any more.
Here’s an interesting example of where current strategy is going. It’s from the May 11th, 2025 the Grim Hustle on YouTube post, “the Reason for your Distraction.”
It’s a pretty self aware pitch, beginning by noting the current 5G propaganda environment we all live in including how to combat 5G propaganda and then moving on with suggestions on how to structure and improve your life amidst all the confusing messages.
It’s a good presentation of good information and only the end of this video mentions the book the author is selling.
There’s nothing wrong with reading books, as the narrator himself notes.
But a closer look reveals the video is not just selling a book.
It’s selling hundreds of items, using hundred’s of video’s on the Grim Hustle YouTube channel and other social media platforms.
Here’s another example of the video’s style, the same wizened old man, perhaps an ex-Russian mafia boss of great experience, pronouncing on honor and wisdom about how men survive in our current world.
It’s quite compelling. It’s also one of the channels earliest video’s,

Nothing is obviously being sold in the second video except for another book.
But the video itself is still aspirational, actionable and seemingly targeted at grown men who consider themselves outsiders looking to make their way and trying to find their “tribe,” a collection of companions who’ll up your game and cover your back.
There’s nothing wrong with that, even if that tribe includes an ex-Russian mafia boss.
But do the research.
You’ll find that the “Grim Hustle,” is owned by Taavi Tammoja, an Estonian business professional and entrepreneur with a diverse portfolio of activities, primarily in business management, event organization, and economic policy advocacy.
Tammoja is notably associated with The Grim Foundation MTÜ, a non-profit association based in Estonia that governs the intellectual property, trademarks, and content of the RING OF GRIM and other Grim Hustle initiatives, including the YouTube channel and the book club.
So it’s a business.
In essence, the Grim Foundation lists itself as a “global private members club,” with a EUR 500 annual fee for membership. Essentially the company monetizes your online views via the following methodologies:
It encourages you to watch a few free video’s, then buy a couple books off the website (they’re good books).
Join the book club for discounts on recommended books. Read a few more books.
After you’ve purchased a few books, you’ll be offered a EUR 500 membership, and encouraged to attend conferences to meet others of a similar mindset.
Go to a few conferences, and you might even get to meet the Russian mafia boss in person to learn the secrets of the universe.
As noted earlier, the message, as gleaned from the various video’s, are useful and actionable. No one at Freedom Forum is objecting to the message.
We just want everyone to know that “The Grim Hustle” has to make a living, just like Freedom Forum. There sales model is different but we like the message.

Finally tonight, here’s the July 12th, 2025 Mongo Minds on Bitchute post, “The Real Life Of Iran.”
It’s a reminder that, whatever the legacy media might tell you, the real situation is usually vastly different.
“Roasting the Press,” is an open forum with new media journalists critiquing and complaining about our well funded competitors, the stories they create and the techniques they use.
