Sidney Sweeney has Great Jeans and Perfect Timing
In a return to classic fashion ads from the 1990’s clothing manufacturer American Eagle has put together and stood behind the advertising campaign which, at least according to the August 1st, 2025 Hollywood Reporter post, “American Eagle Responds to Sydney Sweeney Jeans Campaign Amid Controversy,” seems to have created “an extended online discourse that has seen everyone from the White House to Stephen Colbert weighing in with takes.”

Of course, that ad wasn’t the one which offended people.

The real situation probably has more to do with sex selling, than with anything else.
Here’s one of the more incisive online media critics with his take.
It’s the August 1st, 2025 Critical Drinker after Hours on YouTube post, “Drinker's Chasers - Sydney Sweeney and the War against Beauty.”
Curiously enough, a few days after the offending American Eagle campaign dropped, a video of Sweeney practicing on a gun range went viral.
It seems to have first come to public attention through the August 1st, 2025 Infowars post, “Sydney Sweeney Gun Range Footage Drops Amid American Eagle Controversy, As Company Defends ‘Great Jeans’ Ad,” but by the end of the week, the story was trending on Google.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time a Sydney Sweeney situation has been misrepresented as an overt political act.
As proof, here’s the first few minutes of the November 11th, 2022 Access Hollywood on YouTube post, “Sydney Sweeney Speaks Out over Trump-Themed Gear At Mom's Birthday Party.”
And this isn’t the first time a jeans commercial has talked about “genes.”

Canada Embraces EU Censorship
Everyone in Canada mostly agrees that Canada is awash with propaganda and even the May 7th, 2025 Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives post, “Canada has a disinformation problem—and the tools to fix it,” agrees,
But it also advocates government censorship to combat it.
The left-leaning think tank holds up European Union (EU) censorship initiatives, such as the The Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act as the models which should be rolled-out in Canada.
Canada can follow suit by shifting away from voluntary moderation and moving toward structural reform: mandating transparency about how platforms curate content, requiring that users be allowed to opt out of algorithmic recommendation systems, and ensuring that independent researchers have access to platform data.
The EU’s Code of Practice on Disinformation also shows that voluntary commitments only work when paired with regulatory pressure. US big tech companies, like Meta and X, have resisted transparency even under EU law, proving that self-regulation fails without legal consequences.
But the EU propaganda initiatives are not well received worldwide and only seem popular in Canada because the Americans don’t like them.
As outlined in the July 31st, 2025 NetChoice post, “House Judiciary Exposes Global Censorship Threat Posed by the EU’s Digital Services Act,” the US concerns are real and go so far as recent EU attempt to censor a recent interview between US president Donald Trump and billionaire industrialist Elon Musk.
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is generally considered to be a left-of-centre think tank, according to Wikipedia. It focuses on social, economic, and environmental justice issues, often advocating for policies that promote “equity and social welfare,” according to the Canadian Association of Social Workers.
Does Mark Carney favor “structural reform” of the type favored by the EU and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives?
