The Dreaded "Home Equity Tax!"
The paperwork and tracking mechanisms were put in place by the Trudeau Liberals over the last few years. Will the Carney Liberals pull the trigger on this proposed revenue stream?

As of today, it doesn’t formally exist, but Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives think the Mark Carney Liberals will quietly implement a “Home Equity Tax” should they win the Federal election on Monday.
As noted in the April 22nd, 2025 Canadian Press post, “Poilievre vows not to impose a home equity tax as Liberals, NDP talk health care,” Canadians are currently exempt from paying capital gains tax on the sales of their primary residences.
