Why Hasn't the US Threatened Tariffs on Canadian Dairy, Poultry and Eggs?
The largest Canadian tariffs on imported US products are all on food, mostly because of "Canada’s Supply Management System" a tightly controlled agricultural policy which no-one really seems to like.
To those of us preparing for a traditional turkey dinner to celebrate Easter, its worth noting that Canadian tariffs on US produced food, particularly dairy, poultry, and eggs, are far higher than any other tariffs the United States has been subject to during the current trade war.
The reason for this is “Canada’s Supply Management System,” a national agricultural policy and regulatory framework used to control and “manage” the production, pricing, and trade of many Canadian agricultural products, primarily dairy, poultry (chicken and turkey), and eggs.
