Bill C-5 Propaganda; CSIS Releases Report on Foreign Interference in Canadian Politics but Legacy Prefers to Focus in India, Not China; Logic “Turned Me into a Newt!” and the Gov't Will Never Lie!
Bill C-5 Propaganda
We’ve talked about the propaganda aspect of Bill C-2 in our June 8th, 2025 Roasting the Press post, “Ottawa’s New Bill C-2 is a Propaganda Goldmine of Government Overreach,” but there’s also quite a bit of concern over Federal Bill-5, the “One Canadian Economy Act,” passed in the House on June 20, 2025, but still awaiting final Senate approval.
It’s expected to become law before Canada Day on July 1st.
Up until last week’s G7 conference, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Liberal ministers, like Dominic LeBlanc (@DLeBlancNB), have framed Bill C-5 as a patriotic, urgent response to US tariffs and economic uncertainty, promising to “build one Canadian economy” and create jobs through streamlined project approvals.
Freedom Forum first discussed Bill C-5 in the June 10th, 2025 Last Week Today segment, “Politics in Canada,” which discussed the rushed timeline (it passed in under two weeks) and how the bill was framed as a necessity to counter Trump’s tariffs, a tactic that exploits fear of economic decline to stifle debate.
Carney’s rhetoric, echoed in more recent news posts, such as the June 20th, 2025 Mining Watch post, “The Building Canada Act Is a Shocking Power Grab – And Powerful Political Theatre. What Happens Next?,” emphasized “nation-building projects” like pipelines and highways, claiming the bill will enhance Canada’s autonomy and resilience.
The government uses emotionally charged language like “nation-building,” and “one team” rhetoric to rally public support to invoke national pride while downplaying the bill’s controversial aspects, such as weakened environmental protections and challenges to Indigenous rights.
Indigenous groups, environmentalists, mining companies and opposition parties (NDP, Bloc Québécois, Greens, but not the Conservatives) have labeled Bill C-5 a “power grab” that undermines democracy, Indigenous rights, and environmental laws.
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and Chiefs of Ontario have rallied against Bill C-5, with National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak urging the Governor General to delay passage.
Critics, including columnist Althia Raj and X users like @LeahGazan, highlight the bill’s “Henry VIII clauses,” which grant cabinet unchecked power to override laws, and its rushed process, which limited debate to mere hours.
And here’s the real problem with Bill C-5. Everyone agrees that, over the last 100 years, a whole bunch of stupid laws are on the books, slowing down pretty much everything including infrastructure replacement.
But no one can agree over which laws need to be changed, amended or repealed.
So the Carney Liberals have included within Bill C-5 a gigantic “get out of jail free pass,” which allows the government to ignore legislation in multiple areas as they see fit and without consequence.
While the Carney Liberals insist that they will continue to consult with Canadian’s before major policy decisions are enacted, the final passage of Bill C-5 will ensure that they are no longer required to do so.
That’s quite the coup for a minority government.
Even better, with the government supported CBC leading the charge, most of the also government funded legacy media has portrayed opposition to Bill C-5 as being primarily a “native rights” issue.
The CBC’s bias is evident in the June 17th, 2025 CBC News on YouTube post, “Bill C-5 'will not apply in our territories,' says grand chief” and the June 20th, 2025 CBC News on YouTube post, “With Bill C-5 passed, Carney to meet Indigenous leaders over major projects | Power & Politics.”
The bias in coverage is an error, or perhaps an intentional lie, on CBC’s part and only a few legacy outlets are pointing out the obvious.
The June 22nd, 2025 National Post letter to the Editor, “This is how one-man rule starts,'” notes that “Carney was supposed to confront authoritarian threats, not imitate them.”
The June 17th, 2025 National Post editorial, “Mark Carney is demanding power to suspend all federal laws. What will he use it for?” notes that Bill C-5 would, “would allow cabinet to exempt favored companies from any federal law, opening a massive door to corruption.”
All Canadian’s, not just native communities, should be cautious about giving so much power, to so few people.
The tight timelines the ruling Carney Liberals have demanded as the cost to implement Bill C-5 is simply a smokescreen to discourage the close reading of the legislation.

CSIS Releases Report on Foreign Interference in Canadian Politics but Legacy Prefers to Focus in India, Not China
On June 18th, 2025 the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) released another in a long line of reports detailing extensive interference in Canadian politics from multiple nations.
The report includes multiple examples of foreign governments spying on Canadian citizens, targeting Canadian critics of foreign governments for retribution because of their activities and attempts by foreign agents to influence domestic political party policy and Canadian elections.
The “CSIS Public Report 2024: Forty Years of National Security,” discusses foreign interference from a variety of international sources, including China, the Russian Federation, India and even Iran.
But the legacy news, and most search engines, seem almost entirely focused on Indian activities.

This censorship and lack of MSM coverage could indicate a form of passive propaganda—suppressing stories that challenge powerful interests or disrupt trade relations with China.
This aligns with broader concerns about foreign influence in Canadian media, as seen in past leaks about Chinese election interference.
Or maybe the legacy media simply preferred to focus on cat videos. Who knows.
For more on the efforts of other countries, especially China, to influence Canadian government policy, silence reasonable expatriate comments on the situation in their country of origin and disrupt Canadian civil life, check out the Michael Campbell's Money Talks on YouTube post, “Sam Cooper Exposes China's Political Interference and a Failing Canadian Response.”
Logic “Turned Me into a Newt!”
Logic, reason, and evidence are powerful tools that are often misused to manipulate or deceive by making an argument appear valid when it is not.
As noted in the the June 27th, 2019 American Philosophical Association (APA) post, “Monty Python Witch Trial: Validity, Soundness, and the Fallacy of the Undistributed Middle,” the 1975 movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” contains a scene involving a witch burning trial, which devolves into a discussion about how to prove the accused is a witch.
The APA post notes that the witch burning scene is great for teaching students to recognize a variety of logical fallacies.
The APA post also notes that “humor, when used appropriately, has empirically been shown to correlate with higher retention rates.”

The Government Will Never Lie!
Finally tonight, here’s the June 24th, 2025 Mongo Minds on Bitchute post, “The Government Would Never Lie To You About Vaccines, Or Would They?”
“Roasting the Press,” is an open forum with new media journalists critiquing and complaining about our well funded competitors, the stories they create and the techniques they use.
